The UMass Amherst Design Center, located at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, focuses on the challenges of communities in Massachusetts. They use research, and a wide range of planning and urban design work to address needs of various communities. Efforts include projects to support revitalization and sustainable design. The Design Center is a collaboration between the City of Springfield, the UMass Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, the Department of Architecture, the Department of Building Construction and Technology, the UMass Extension/Center for Agriculture. The work also provides opportunities for students to participate in community outreach, urban design, and city planning, while also strengthening a connection between the university and communities in Massachusetts.
